Tech Repair Shop St Helens | Gadgets n Repair
Your laptop is your livelihood. Your MacBook is how you work, study, create, and stay connected. So when it crashes, the screen goes black, the battery dies in 20 minutes, or it just refuses to turn on, you don’t want to wait a week at the Apple Store, get fobbed off by a big retailer, or hand it to someone you’ve never met and hope for the best.
You want it fixed properly, by someone who actually knows what they’re doing, at a price that doesn’t make you wince, and ideally today.
That’s exactly what Bilal does at Gadgets n Repair, right here in St Helens. Whether you’ve got a cracked MacBook screen, a Windows laptop that won’t boot, a desktop PC plagued by viruses, or a MacBook logic board fault that the Apple Store quoted you £800 to fix, bring it in, and we’ll tell you honestly what’s wrong, what it’ll cost, and whether it’s worth fixing. No jargon. No hidden fees. No surprises.
We repair MacBooks, iMacs, HP laptops, Dell laptops, Lenovo ThinkPads, Asus gaming laptops, Microsoft Surface devices, Acer laptops, custom-built desktop PCs, and everything in between. Mac or Windows, Apple Silicon or Intel, budget laptop or high-end machine, if it’s a computer and it’s broken, chances are Bilal can fix it, often the same day you bring it in.
Walk in today. Free diagnosis. Most repairs completed same day.
Whether it’s a MacBook that won’t charge, a laptop screen that’s cracked beyond reading, a PC grinding to a halt, or a hard drive that’s taken years of irreplaceable files with it — we’ve seen it all and fixed all of it. Here’s what we repair every single day:
Apple products are brilliantly designed and notoriously expensive to fix if you go through Apple directly. A cracked MacBook Pro screen quoted at £500 at the Apple Store. A logic board fault dismissed as “not repairable.” A battery replacement that somehow takes two weeks. We hear these stories from customers every week and in most cases, we fix the same problem for a fraction of the price, the same day they walk in.
Bilal specialises in Apple Mac repair across every model and generation. From the oldest Intel MacBooks still in daily use to the latest M3 MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros, if Apple made it, we can work on it.
A cracked, flickering, or completely dead MacBook screen is one of the most common repairs we carry out. Whether it’s a hairline crack from a dropped lid, a shattered display from an unfortunate bag incident, or a screen that’s developed vertical lines and dead zones out of nowhere, we source and fit quality replacement display assemblies for all MacBook models.
We replace screens on MacBook Air (M1, M2, M3, and all Intel generations), MacBook Pro 13″, MacBook Pro 14″, MacBook Pro 16″, and older Unibody and Retina MacBook models. Most MacBook screen replacements are completed same day. You walk in with a cracked screen, you walk out with a display that looks exactly as it should.
MacBook batteries degrade over time, it’s a fact of life. If your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro is dying by midday on a full charge, taking forever to reach 100%, running hot even on basic tasks, or showing a “Service Recommended” battery warning, the battery needs replacing.
We replace MacBook batteries across all models, including MacBook Air M1, MacBook Air M2, MacBook Air M3, MacBook Pro 13″ M1 and M2, and older Intel MacBooks. A battery replacement at Gadgets n Repair costs a fraction of Apple’s service pricing, comes with a warranty, and is usually done within the hour. You don’t need to book weeks in advance. Walk in, drop it off, collect it the same day with a battery that holds a full charge again.
If your MacBook won’t charge or only charges when you hold the cable at a precise angle, the charging port is likely the issue. On modern MacBooks, this means the USB-C or Thunderbolt port. On older MacBooks, it’s the MagSafe connector. Both are repairable without replacing the entire logic board, which is what some shops will try to tell you.
We clean, repair, and replace faulty charging ports on all MacBook models. In many cases, it’s simply a debris blockage that needs careful cleaning, something we do at no charge during diagnosis. If the port needs replacing, we’ll quote you before touching a thing.
A MacBook that won’t charge isn’t necessarily a dead MacBook. Bring it in before spending money on a new one.
This is where Gadgets n Repair separates itself from most repair shops. Logic board faults are the diagnosis most Apple technicians use to tell customers their device isn’t repairable because replacing an entire logic board costs £400 to £800 or more. But in a significant number of cases, the actual fault is a specific component on the board, a power management IC, a blown capacitor, a damaged charging controller that can be identified and repaired at component level.
Our experts perform micro-soldering and component-level logic board repair on MacBook models where board replacement is not economically viable. This means, we diagnose the actual fault and address it directly, often saving customers several hundred pounds compared to Apple Store pricing.
If you’ve been told your MacBook has a logic board failure and the repair cost is prohibitive, bring it to us. We’ll assess it honestly. If it’s fixable at component level, we’ll fix it. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you that too, and you won’t owe us a penny.
Spilled a drink on your MacBook? It happens more often than you’d think, and the outcome depends almost entirely on how quickly you act.
The single most important thing to do when liquid hits your MacBook is: do not try to turn it on. Powering on a wet logic board causes shorts that turn a recoverable situation into an unrecoverable one. Close the lid, turn it upside down, and bring it to us immediately.
We carry out controlled disassembly, circuit board cleaning, and continuity testing to assess water damage on MacBooks and laptops. In many cases, especially with clean liquid and fast action, a water-damaged MacBook can be fully recovered. Even in more severe cases, we may be able to recover your data if the device itself cannot be saved.
If your MacBook got wet, every hour counts. Don’t leave it sitting in rice. Bring it in today.
MacBook keyboards are notoriously prone to issues, sticky keys, that stop registering, keys that register twice, or the entire top row behaving erratically. Earlier MacBook Pro models with the butterfly keyboard mechanism were particularly problematic, but even the newer scissor-switch keyboards develop faults over time.
We replace and repair MacBook keyboards and trackpads across all generations. If individual keys have failed on your MacBook or if your trackpad is clicking in the wrong places, registering phantom touches, or not clicking at all, bring it in for a free assessment.
iMac repairs are a different discipline from MacBook work. iMac screen repair, iMac RAM upgrade, iMac hard drive replacement (or SSD upgrade for older spinning-disk models), iMac overheating diagnosis, and iMac logic board fault assessment are all services we carry out in our St Helens workshop.
If your iMac screen has developed a yellowing tint at the bottom, vertical lines, or dark patches, these are common failure modes we’ve repaired many times. If your iMac has become unusably slow on the original spinning hard drive, an SSD upgrade transforms it into a machine that feels completely new.
Not every Mac problem is a hardware problem. A Mac running slow, freezing constantly, or refusing to boot correctly may have a software fault, a corrupted macOS installation, or a failing storage drive that hasn’t quite given up yet.
We run full hardware diagnostics to determine whether your sluggish Mac needs a new SSD, a RAM upgrade, a macOS reinstall, or just a good cleanup of background processes and startup items. In many cases, a Mac that feels unusably slow can be transformed without replacing a single component.
We handle macOS reinstallation, system recovery, Time Machine restoration, iCloud configuration issues, and full macOS upgrades on all supported Mac models.
Lost files from a Mac? Failed hard drive? SSD that’s stopped being recognised? We provide professional data recovery services for Mac systems, recovering documents, photos, videos, and other critical files from failed, corrupted, and physically damaged storage devices.
Mac data recovery is time-sensitive. The more you use a failing drive, the lower the chances of a successful recovery. If your Mac is showing signs of storage failure, slow performance, clicking sounds, files disappearing, disk errors on startup, bring it in immediately, before total failure occurs.
Apple gets a lot of attention, but the majority of computers in homes and businesses across St Helens run Windows and they need just as much care and expertise when things go wrong. We repair Windows laptops and desktop PCs from every major brand, covering every fault from cracked screens to full motherboard failure.
A cracked laptop screen doesn’t mean a broken laptop. Screen replacement is one of the most common and cost-effective repairs we carry out, we source quality replacement panels for virtually every Windows laptop on the market, with same day repair.
We replace screens on HP laptops, Dell laptops, Lenovo laptops (including ThinkPad, IdeaPad, and Yoga series), Asus laptops (VivoBook, ZenBook, ROG), Acer laptops (Aspire, Nitro, Swift), Microsoft Surface devices, Samsung Galaxy Books, Toshiba laptops, MSI gaming laptops, and any other model you bring in.
Whether your screen is physically cracked, showing a black display, flickering on startup, or has a damaged hinge that’s caused the panel to break, bring it in for a free diagnosis. Most laptop screen replacements are completed within the same day.
A laptop that only lasts 45 minutes on battery is effectively a desktop computer with a very long power cable. Battery degradation is one of the most common issues with older laptops and one of the easiest and most cost-effective to fix.
We replace batteries in HP laptops, Dell laptops, Lenovo ThinkPads, Asus laptops, Acer laptops, Toshiba laptops, and most other common Windows laptop brands. If your laptop battery drains faster than it used to, takes hours to charge, or your laptop warns you to consider replacing the battery, a new battery gives your laptop a new lease of life for a fraction of the cost of a new machine.
Battery replacement starts from £39. Most jobs completed within the hour.
If your computer is slow, covered in pop-up adverts, redirecting your browser to strange websites, or displaying warnings demanding payment, it almost certainly has a virus, malware, or potentially unwanted software installed. This is one of the most common computer problems we deal with in St Helens.
Bilal carries out complete virus and malware removal, not just a quick scan and a hope for the best, but a systematic elimination of every threat on your system, followed by reconfiguration to prevent reinfection. We check startup processes, browser extensions, scheduled tasks, and system files to make sure the infection is completely eradicated rather than partially suppressed.
We also install and configure appropriate security software to protect your system going forward, and advise you on how the infection likely occurred so you can avoid repeating the experience.
A computer full of malware isn’t just annoying, it can put your banking details, passwords, and personal data at serious risk. Don’t ignore it.
A failing hard drive is one of the most dangerous things that can happen to a computer, dangerous because it almost always takes your data with it when it goes. Clicking sounds from your laptop, extremely slow boot times, files randomly disappearing, or your computer freezing during normal use are all warning signs that your hard drive is on its way out.
We replace failing hard drives and perform data recovery before they fail completely. We also carry out SSD upgrades, replacing old spinning hard drives with modern solid-state drives, which is one of the single most impactful upgrades you can make to an older laptop or desktop PC. An SSD upgrade typically reduces boot time from over a minute to under 15 seconds, makes applications open instantly, and dramatically improves overall responsiveness.
Motherboard faults are the repair most shops refuse to attempt, it’s easier to tell a customer their machine is beyond economical repair and sell them a new one. Bilal takes a different approach.
For laptops and desktop PCs where the motherboard has developed a fault whether that’s a failed power regulation circuit, a damaged PCIe slot, a faulty RAM slot causing boot failures, or a more complex fault requiring micro-soldering, we assess the board, identify the fault, and carry out targeted component-level repair where technically viable.
This doesn’t mean every motherboard fault is fixable. Some aren’t. But if it is fixable, we’ll fix it and we’ll tell you honestly if it isn’t, before you spend a penny.
A Windows installation that’s become corrupted over years of use, failed updates, conflicting software, or malware removal can leave your computer unstable, slow, or completely unbootable. Sometimes the right fix isn’t a hardware repair, it’s a clean, properly configured operating system installation.
We carry out Windows 10 and Windows 11 reinstallation on laptops and desktop PCs, migrating your files and settings where possible and ensuring your drivers, applications, and security software are correctly configured from the start. We also repair Windows installations that have failed to update, are stuck in boot loops, or are showing persistent error messages.
If your computer’s BIOS settings have become corrupted, we diagnose and repair those too.
A laptop that won’t connect to Wi-Fi is almost useless in modern daily life. Wi-Fi problems on laptops can stem from a failed wireless network card, corrupted drivers, misconfigured network settings, or physical antenna damage from a previous screen repair carried out incorrectly elsewhere.
We diagnose and fix Wi-Fi connectivity problems on all Windows laptops, whether that’s a driver reinstall, a network card replacement, or an antenna reconnection. If your laptop connects to some networks but not others, drops connection randomly, or simply doesn’t show available networks at all, bring it in.
A laptop that’s hot to the touch, running loud fans constantly, throttling its performance to prevent damage, or shutting itself down without warning is dealing with a thermal management problem. In the vast majority of cases, this is caused by a clogged cooling system, years of dust accumulation blocking the heatsink and fan, combined with thermal paste that has dried out and lost its conductivity.
We clean laptop cooling systems, replace thermal paste on processors and graphics chips, and in some cases replace faulty fans or heatsinks. An overheating laptop that’s been properly cleaned and re-pasted runs cooler, quieter, faster, and lasts significantly longer.
Don’t ignore an overheating laptop. Sustained high temperatures damage processors, graphics cards, and storage, turning what would have been a cheap fan clean into a much more expensive motherboard repair.
A laptop that won’t charge or only charges intermittently when the cable is held at a specific angle, almost always has a damaged charging port. On older laptops, this is the barrel connector. On newer laptops and Microsoft Surface devices, this is often a USB-C or proprietary charging port.
We repair and replace charging ports on all Windows laptop brands. In some cases the port can be resoldered to the motherboard without requiring a full replacement, saving time and cost. In others, the port assembly requires replacement. Either way, it’s a fixable problem, and one we deal with regularly.
A broken hinge on a laptop might seem like a cosmetic issue, but leave it unaddressed and the ongoing stress on the hinge point will crack the display bezel, damage the screen cable, and eventually break the display panel itself, turning a £60 hinge repair into a £200 screen replacement.
If your laptop lid doesn’t sit right, wobbles when typing, or the casing around the hinge has started cracking, bring it in sooner rather than later.
Keys that don’t register. Keys that stick and repeat themselves. Keys that have physically snapped off. A keyboard that’s suffered a liquid spill and now has half the keys functioning. These are all repairs we carry out regularly on Windows laptops.
We replace laptop keyboards across all major brands and models, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, and more. If you’re currently using an external USB keyboard because the built-in one is broken, we can almost certainly fix it for less than you’d expect.
Desktop PCs are built to last, but they’re not immune to failure. We repair desktop computers from all major manufacturers including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, and Asus desktop towers, as well as custom-built gaming desktops.
Common desktop PC repairs we handle include: blue screen (BSOD) diagnosis and repair, GPU (graphics card) faults, RAM failure, PSU (power supply) replacement, SSD/HDD replacement and upgrade, Windows corruption, virus and malware removal, overheating from dust-clogged cooling systems, and BIOS/UEFI repair.
If your desktop PC won’t boot, powers on but shows no display, crashes under load, or is making unusual noises, bring it in or give us a call.
We also build and upgrade custom gaming PCs for customers across St Helens and Merseyside. Whether you want a brand-new build from scratch or you want to upgrade specific components in your existing rig, new GPU, more RAM, a faster SSD, better cooling, we spec it, source the parts, and assemble it properly.
If you’ve bought components online and need someone to put them together, configure the BIOS, install Windows, and make sure everything is running as it should, we offer that service too.
Lost files. Corrupted drives. Formatted partitions. Failed SSDs. Laptops that won’t turn on and take years of family photos with them. Data recovery is one of the most stressful situations a computer user can face and it’s an area where how quickly you act makes an enormous difference.
We provide professional data recovery services for both Mac and Windows computers across St Helens and the surrounding area. We recover data from failing hard drives, corrupted SSDs, accidentally formatted drives, deleted file recovery, and storage devices damaged by water or impact.
The most important thing we’ll say about data recovery: do not keep using a device you think has a storage problem. Every read/write operation on a failing drive makes recovery harder. Switch it off and bring it in immediately.
Data recovery success rates and costs vary depending on the type and severity of failure, we’ll assess it and give you an honest evaluation before any work starts.
There’s no shortage of places that will take your money to fix a laptop in St Helens. So why do hundreds of local people choose Gadgets n Repair, and why do they keep coming back?
This is the most important thing to understand about how we operate. When you bring your laptop or Mac to Gadgets n Repair, Bilal personally assesses it, personally carries out the diagnostic, and personally carries out the repair. You’re not dealing with a rotating roster of staff who’ve never seen your device before. You’re not sending your machine to a warehouse somewhere in the Midlands to be looked at by a technician you’ll never speak to.
You’re handing your computer to an experienced technician who has worked on thousands of devices, who will examine yours carefully and individually, and who takes genuine professional pride in the outcome of every repair. When you collect your laptop, you’ll know exactly what was wrong, what was done to fix it, and why the repair will last.
Mac and PC repair requires a level of precision and attention that’s impossible to rush. A connector seated incorrectly, a screw stripped through carelessness, a thermal pad fitted badly, these are the kinds of mistakes that turn a successful repair into a callback a month later. Bilal doesn’t rush, doesn’t cut corners, and doesn’t let a device leave the workshop unless he’s satisfied it’s right.
This is an area where the repair industry has a genuine problem. The cheapest screen panels and batteries are inexpensive for a reason, they have inferior colour accuracy, lower brightness, reduced touch sensitivity, and lower actual capacity than the original components. They look fine in the shop and feel fine for two weeks. Then the touch stops responding in the corners, or the battery starts losing capacity again after three months, or the screen develops a blue tint.
We don’t use cheap components. The parts we source are quality replacements that match the original specifications closely enough that you won’t notice the difference in daily use. For MacBook repairs in particular, where display quality matters enormously, we specifically source panels with accurate colour profiles and proper brightness levels. For battery replacements, we source cells with genuine rated capacities, not inflated figures on a spec sheet.
The difference isn’t obvious on day one. It becomes obvious over the following 18 months, when our repairs are still working exactly as they should, and the cheap repair down the road has been back in twice.
We will never start work on your device without telling you exactly what’s wrong and what it will cost to fix, and getting your explicit agreement to proceed. This is not a guarantee every shop offers, some charge diagnostic fees, some start work and present you with a bill, some quote one price and charge another.
At Gadgets n Repair, the diagnosis is always free. If you bring in a laptop and the fault turns out to be minor, we’ll tell you that. If the repair isn’t economically worthwhile, if the cost of fixing your machine approaches the cost of a decent replacement, we’ll tell you that too, even if it means you leave without spending anything. Honest advice, even when it’s not in our immediate commercial interest, is what builds the kind of reputation that keeps people coming back.
If we can’t fix your device, you don’t pay. No diagnostic fee, no assessment charge, no administration cost. Nothing. This policy applies to qualifying repairs and it means you take zero financial risk by bringing your machine in.
We only take on repairs we believe are viable. But if we assess a device, carry out work, and ultimately can’t resolve the fault to a satisfactory standard, you owe us nothing. That’s a commitment we stand behind.
We know how disruptive it is to be without your computer. For most common repairs, screen replacements, battery replacements, SSD upgrades, virus removal, charging port repairs, keyboard replacements, and operating system reinstalls, we aim to complete the work the same day you bring the device in. For repairs brought in before noon, same-day completion is the target in most cases.
Complex repairs, logic board faults, water damage recovery, data recovery from severely damaged drives, require more time and we’ll give you a realistic timeline when we assess the device. But we’ll never give you a two-week estimate for a job that should take two days, and we’ll keep you updated throughout.
Every Mac and PC repair carried out at Gadgets n Repair is covered by a 1-year warranty on parts and labour. If a fault recurs that’s related to the work we carried out, we fix it. No arguments, no fees. This is the confidence we have in the quality of our work and the parts we use.
If you’re a new customer, you receive 20% off your first repair. It’s our way of making it easy to try us and, we’re confident, start a long relationship built on trust and results.

Not sure whether your Mac or PC is worth repairing, or whether what you’re experiencing is a known fault? Here are the most common issues we see from customers across St Helens and what they usually mean.
Laptop won’t turn on — Could be a failed power jack, dead battery, motherboard fault, or corrupted firmware. Free diagnosis tells us which. Most are fixable.
MacBook not starting up — Could be a macOS corruption, storage failure, or logic board issue. We assess the exact fault before recommending a repair.
Laptop running painfully slow — Usually a failing hard drive or a machine that would benefit enormously from an SSD upgrade. Sometimes it’s malware. We diagnose accurately.
Mac running slow — Could be low RAM, a near-full or failing SSD, background processes consuming resources, or a macOS installation that’s become corrupted. We identify the cause.
Battery draining extremely fast — Battery at end of life. A new battery fixes this completely, costs a fraction of a new machine, and is done within the hour in most cases.
Laptop got wet — Bring it in immediately. Do not try to turn it on. Early intervention is the difference between a recoverable situation and a write-off.
Screen cracked or showing black display — Very fixable. Screen replacement is one of the most common repairs we carry out, same day, for most models.
Computer full of viruses and pop-ups — Complete virus and malware removal, root cause addressed, security configured. Done same day.
Laptop not charging — Charging port or battery fault. Both are fixable. Bring it in before buying a new machine.
Won’t connect to WiFi — Driver, wireless card, or configuration fault. We diagnose and fix connectivity problems.
Lost important files — Contact us immediately and do not keep using the device. The sooner we start, the higher the recovery rate.
Random crashes and blue screens — Hardware fault, driver conflict, or OS corruption. Free diagnosis pinpoints it.
Computer making clicking or grinding sounds — Hard drive mechanical failure. Stop using it immediately. Every moment of use reduces data recovery chances.
Not on this list? Call us. If it’s broken, there’s a good chance we can fix it.
Gadgets n Repair is based in St Helens, Merseyside, and we’re proud to be a genuinely local business, not a franchise, not a faceless online postal service, but a real workshop run by a real technician who lives and works in this community.
We fix Macs and PCs for customers from across the area every day, including:
St Helens town centre and all surrounding areas, Haydock, Rainford, Eccleston, Thatto Heath, Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown, Prescot, Whiston, and Rainhill, Billinge and Garswood, Huyton and Knowsley, Wider Merseyside including St Helens, Liverpool, and Warrington, Parts of Greater Manchester and beyond via our secure postal repair service.
Being local matters for Mac and PC repair in a way it doesn’t for many services. You can walk in without an appointment. You can speak directly to the person fixing your device. You can collect it the same day in most cases. If something isn’t right, which in our experience is rare, because we do the job properly the first time, you know exactly where we are and who to speak to.
Bilal founded Gadgets n Repair with a straightforward belief: people in St Helens deserve a computer repair service they can genuinely trust. One where the person behind the counter tells you the truth about what’s wrong, uses parts that will last, charges a fair price, and stands behind the work with a real warranty.
That belief hasn’t changed. It’s what drives every repair that leaves this workshop.
Mac repair costs vary depending on the fault and model. Screen replacements start from £79, battery replacements from £59, and software repairs from £45. Logic board and motherboard repair is quoted individually after a free diagnosis. First-time customers receive 20% off. We always confirm the exact cost before starting any work — no surprises.
Most common repairs — screen replacement, battery replacement, SSD upgrade, virus removal, charging port repair, OS reinstall — are completed the same day, often within 2 to 4 hours. Complex repairs such as logic board fault diagnosis, water damage recovery, and data recovery from severely damaged drives typically take 2 to 5 days. We give you a realistic timeline when we assess your device and keep you updated throughout.
In the majority of cases, yes. A MacBook screen replacement costs from £79 — a fraction of a new machine. A battery replacement costs from £59 and gives the device years more life. Even logic board repairs, which sound alarming, are often viable at component level for far less than Apple's replacement cost. The only time we'd advise against repair is when the cost approaches or exceeds the value of a comparable replacement — and we'll tell you that honestly, before you spend anything.
Yes. We work on the full range of Apple Silicon MacBooks and iMacs, including MacBook Air M1, MacBook Air M2, MacBook Air M3, MacBook Pro M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. Apple Silicon Macs present different diagnostic and repair challenges from Intel models — but they're challenges Bilal is equipped to handle.
Often yes — particularly if you act quickly. The most important thing you can do is not try to turn the device on after liquid contact. Bring it to us as soon as possible. We disassemble, clean, and assess water-damaged devices to determine viability. Early intervention significantly increases the chances of a full recovery.
A full free diagnosis at Gadgets n Repair covers hardware assessment (battery, screen, storage health, charging system, RAM, motherboard), software assessment (OS health, startup processes, malware scan), and connectivity testing. We identify the fault, explain it clearly, and give you a transparent quote — all at no charge and with no obligation to proceed.
Yes. If we cannot repair your device on qualifying repairs, you pay nothing — no diagnostic fee, no assessment charge, no cost at all. We take zero financial risk off your hands. We only take on repairs we believe are achievable, and we stand behind that with a genuine no fix, no fee commitment.
Your data is handled with complete confidentiality and care. We will never access, copy, or share your personal files. We will never wipe or reformat your storage without your explicit prior consent. If your repair requires a clean OS installation, we back up your data first — with your permission and full awareness of what's being preserved.
In many cases, yes. A laptop that shows no signs of life could have a dead battery, a failed power circuit, a fault on the motherboard, or a corrupted firmware/BIOS. Free diagnosis determines the exact cause. This is not automatically a terminal problem, and it's worth getting assessed before assuming the worst.
Yes. We repair MSI gaming laptops, Asus ROG and TUF series, Razer Blade laptops, Acer Predator and Nitro series, Lenovo Legion, and HP Omen laptops. We also build and upgrade custom gaming desktop PCs — whether that's a component upgrade to an existing rig, a full custom build from scratch, or post-build configuration and Windows setup.
Data recovery starts from £60 and varies based on the type and severity of the failure. Logical recovery (deleted files, formatted drives, corrupted file systems) is typically at the lower end of the range. Physical drive failure requires more involved work and is quoted individually. We assess the device first — at no charge — and give you a realistic evaluation of both the cost and the likely success rate before you commit to anything.
Yes. A laptop screen that's gone black while the machine still appears to be running (you can hear it, you can see a faint image when you shine a torch at the screen) is usually a backlight failure — a different fault from a dead panel. Backlight repair is typically cheaper than a full screen replacement, and it's something we diagnose and fix regularly.
